Plot Protests in Kazakhstan amid rising gas prices
Law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan detained 852 rioters in Alma-Ata, including those who attacked the police department on the night of January 6. The official representative of the Almaty city headquarters, Saltanat Ozirbek, said this on the Khabar-24 TV channel.
She also said that 18 firearms and almost 1400 ammunition were withdrawn from illegal circulation.
The speaker noted that the storming of the police department building was planned by the rioters. The attackers, according to Ozirbek, had special training and equipment, which is confirmed by the video that came to the disposal of the investigating authorities.
In addition, the representative of the city operational headquarters said that law enforcement agencies had cleared several districts of Almaty from the rioters and, in particular, the presidential residence, city administration, Republic Square, Duman microdistrict, residential area adjacent to the Carcity trading house, Auezovsky and Nauryzbaysky districts.
Earlier it was reported that the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev on January 11 will make personnel changes. Among other things, the name of the new head of the republic's government will become known.
It also became known that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken condemned Tokayev's order to shoot to kill. Earlier, the American politician said that Kazakhstan could independently cope with the protests without the help of the CSTO.
