Head of the Donetsk People's Republic Denis Pushilin hopes for the completion of the Russian special operation in Ukraine before the end of the year, reports “RIA Novosti” ;.

State Duma deputy Adam Delimkhanov also announced a possible end to the special operation in Ukraine by the end of the year. Pushilin agreed with this assessment. “I really hope so,” — he said, commenting on the words of the parliamentarian.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a special military operation in Ukraine to “denazify” Ukraine. and “demilitarization” neighboring country. At the end of March, the Ministry of Defense announced the completion of key tasks in the Kiev and Chernigov directions. The department also stated that the main goal of the Russian troops is the “complete liberation of Donbass”.

At the end of May, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said that Moscow “is not chasing deadlines”; when performing the tasks of a special operation, and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported that the offensive in Ukraine was deliberately slowing down for the sake of opening humanitarian corridors and silence regimes. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the special operation would be completed “after completing all the assigned tasks.”

Mariupol, the entire Kherson region, Berdyansk, Melitopol and a number of other settlements of the Zaporozhye region are now under the control of Russian forces area.

Since late February, Moscow and Kyiv have been negotiating a peace settlement. One of the face-to-face meetings took place in Istanbul, where the Ukrainian side handed over its proposals to the Russian side. Lavrov said that later Moscow sent retaliatory proposals to Kyiv, but there was no reaction from the Ukrainian authorities.

In mid-May, negotiations between Russia and Ukraine were stopped, this was confirmed by both sides. Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv was ready for negotiations only if the territories were returned before the start of the special operation.
