Munich prosecutor's office confiscated three apartments and arrested bank accounts Russians due to sanctions, senior prosecutor Anna Leiding said, writes Süddeutsche Zeitung citing dpa. This is the first case in Germany when not only the funds in the accounts, but also the real estate were frozen, the prosecutor noted.

The property belongs to a State Duma deputy who fell under EU sanctions on February 23 due to Russia's recognition of the DPR and LPR, and his wife. As previously reported by the Süddeutsche Zeitung, citing its own sources, this is a member of the Communist Party, his name is not disclosed.

All three apartments are located in Munich, and the rent received on the account payments amount to about €3.5 thousand monthly, the prosecutor's office said.

According to the newspaper, the deputy and his wife should be charged with violating the sanctions. If they arrive in Germany and stand trial there, they could face up to five years in prison.

After the sanctions imposed by the EU due to the recognition of the republics of Donbass, and then due to the special operation in Ukraine, sanctions, some European countries blocked property Russians who fell under restrictions: they confiscated yachts, seized funds in accounts, and froze real estate. Basically it was the property of Russian businessmen. The Kremlin considers the sanctions imposed on Russia illegal.
