Deputies of Sevastopol deprived Kuchma of the title of honorary citizen of the city

The second president of Ukraine lost another honorary title in Crimea, earlier he ceased to be an honorary Crimean and an honorary citizen of Kerch

The Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol deprived ex-president of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma of the title of honorary citizen of the city. This was reported on the website of the city parliament.

The resolution “On the deprivation of Leonid Danilovich Kuchma of the title” Honorary citizen of the city of Sevastopol”; supported by 16 deputies, two were against, two more— abstained.

At the end of May, the Legislative Assembly of the city adopted amendments to the law “On the honorary citizen of the city of Sevastopol”, allowing the deputies of parliament to deprive the honorary title by their decision. Prior to that, such a decision could only be made at a referendum.

Leonid Kuchma served as president of Ukraine for two terms, from 1994 to 2005. From 2015 to 2020 (with a break) he was the chairman of the contact group for resolving the conflict in Donbass.

In April, Kuchma was deprived of the title of “Honorary Crimean”. and “Honorary Citizen of Kerch”. The Crimean authorities explained that such a step was taken against those people who “welcomed the energy and water blockade of Crimea, who question the legitimacy and fairness of our return to Russia, who stained themselves with outright Russophobia.” In addition to Kuchma, the first president of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, boxer Oleksandr Usyk and others lost their honorary titles.
