Plot Special operation of the Russian Federation in Donbass and Ukraine
The Ministry of Defense published footage of combat duty crews of the Nebo-SV radar stations and the operation of the Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile systems. The radar is ideal for detecting small targets like drones, and detects even objects with a minimal thermal footprint.

Why do we need it?
The sky in the area is monitored around the clock. The number of targets simultaneously in the air can reach several tens — all of them are identified and tracked.
The data collected from them is brought together, which allows you to form a general picture of the air situation and quickly make a decision on targets. Today, the most common goal — UAV. It is Nebo-SV that tracks drones best of all. and other modifications of this radar complex operating in the meter range of radio waves. Of course, not only the Nebo-SV radar works, but also other air defense radar systems.
According to experts, the work of this type of radar crew is of great importance for the timely detection of air threats.
How does it work?
After an object is detected, for example, a drone or a helicopter, it the request “friend or foe” arrives. The task of “destroy” an alien vehicle enters air defense positions, anti-aircraft missile systems destroy targets.
Development
In 1975, development work began with the cipher “Sky”. Their goal was to create two unified two-coordinate radars of a new generation. For the air defense forces of the country, a large transportable station was designed, and for the air defense of the ground forces — mobile, smaller, which received the designation 1L13 “Sky-SV”.
In 1988, “Sky-SV” adopted. In the 1990s, more powerful radars were being developed under the same code “Sky”. They could already work in the interests of not only air defense, but also missile defense.
Advantages
The advantages of the installation include increased noise immunity, good trafficability of vehicles, the presence of hydraulic systems for deploying and folding antenna arrays, the ability to use GLONASS and GPS navigation systems. The complex is mobile to ensure safety, constantly moving. The calculation can change the location several times a day.
Abilities
For the deployment of the “Nebo-SV” radar it takes 40 minutes to turn on the deployed station — only 3 minutes. The calculation includes six people. Targets at a distance of up to 500 kilometers are visible on the monitor.
As part of “Nebo-SV” a flat folding antenna array with 72 main radiators is used. Scanning in azimuth is provided by constant rotation of the antenna array.
Useful cooperation
Nebo-SV radar complex used in conjunction with the Buk-M3 air defense system. This is the latest modification of the world-famous anti-aircraft missile system. It was accepted into service in 2016. The main external difference “Buk-M3” from predecessors — six transport and launch containers instead of the usual four open missiles. In containers — new anti-aircraft guided missiles 9M317M, which in terms of basic technical characteristics are almost twice as superior to previous models. To date, it can be considered the best in the world among missiles of its class.
