In response to a request to evaluate the aggressive policy of Western countries towards Russia, Dmitry Peskov advised the journalist of “Russia 1” ; Pavel Zarubin “do not gravitate toward the apocalypse.” A fragment of the interview given by the Kremlin representative to the journalist has been published on the Telegram channel of the Watch platform.
“Here you are gravitating towards the apocalypse. Let's talk about something more constructive. Let's hope that after all, some kind of political will and some kind of political reason still remains at least partially in the collective West, — said Peskov.
Relations between Russia and Western countries deteriorated sharply after Putin announced the start of a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24. The US and the EU imposed sanctions against Russia that affected the country's industry and financial system. Sanctions, in particular, were imposed against the Russian Central Bank and the largest banks — Sberbank, VTB, Promsvyazbank and Alfa-Bank.
The Russian authorities believe that Western countries are taking “ill-conceived and impulsive actions.” According to President Vladimir Putin, the risk of their commission is increasing, as the West adheres to dogmatism and tries by all means to maintain its dominance. Western states did not notice how it weakened, and drove themselves into a trap, Putin noted. From the president's point of view, Western countries failed to ruin the Russian economy.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has repeatedly stressed that the country will never trust the European Union and the United States. In turn, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev expressed the opinion that Russia “has nowhere to go already”; against the backdrop of sanctions. The country had no choice but to do everything to replace foreign equipment with domestic counterparts that are not inferior to it in terms of characteristics, the politician said.
