This week, the United States will announce a new military aid package for Ukraine that will include additional HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS). This was stated by John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator at the White House National Security Council, during a press conference.
“This week, the US administration will announce a new aid package to Ukraine, which will be the sixteenth. The package will include more HIMARS, additional ammunition for the MLRS and for artillery,— Kirby said.
US President Joe Biden announced the provision of HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems to Ukraine on June 1. At the end of last month, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny said that HIMARS were already being used in the Donbass. In early July, the United States announced a new assistance package to Ukraine, which should include shells for these MLRS. The Russian embassy said that the supply of military assistance to Ukraine does not bring peace closer, and American weapons are used “to destroy the cities of Donbass.”
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznik noted that Kyiv undertook not to use precision-guided weapons transferred by the West for attacks on targets in Russia. However, the representative of the main intelligence department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Vadym Skibitsky, allowed the use of HIMARS against Russian facilities in Crimea. Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the head of the office of the Ukrainian president, also noted that the promise not to hit targets on Russian territory does not apply to the Crimean bridge, since it “passes through the territorial waters of Ukraine” in the first part; and built “illegally”.
