8 February at American Hospital, located in the Parisian suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine, Luc Montagnier— died at the age of 89; professor, world-famous virologist and Nobel Prize winner for the discovery of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). Information about his death appeared this week, but some media questioned its veracity. The sad news was confirmed by Montagnier's colleagues — infectious disease specialist Didier Raoult and Dr. Beatrice Milbert, — as well as the City Hall of Neuilly. A more dangerous and contagious strain of HIV has been identified in the Netherlands

A new, more contagious and dangerous strain of the human immunodeficiency virus, called VB, was identified by scientists at Oxford University when examining blood samples from residents of Europe, TASS reports. During the study of biomaterial participants of the international project BEEHIVE, scientists found in 17 people the same variant of HIV, called VB. His virus concentration was five times higher than normal, and the immunity in such patients decreased twice as fast as usual. 15 out of 17 patients lived in the Netherlands, so scientists conducted additional studies, identifying about 200 more carriers from Holland.
