How do you remember Luc Montagnier, the virologist who discovered HIV?
8 February at American Hospital, located in the Parisian suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine, Luc Montagnier— died at the age of 89; professor, world-famous virologist and Nobel Prize winner for the discovery of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus).
Information about his death appeared this week, but some media questioned its veracity. The sad news was confirmed by Montagnier's colleagues — infectious disease specialist Didier Raoult and Dr. Beatrice Milbert, — as well as the City Hall of Neuilly. According to Liberation, the scientist died surrounded by relatives. The cause of death was not specified.
